About
Lynn Lynn (Htwe Lin Ko) is a Myanmar rock musician, songwriter, music producer and filmmaker now based in Houston, Texas.
Born in Mandalay, he taught himself guitar at age nine, played professionally from 1998 and became a professional songwriter in 2000, writing original songs in a scene then dominated by adaptations of foreign music. He has written more than 300 songs for Burmese singers. His 2008 album Think About It became a major success and established him as a nationally known performer, followed by four more albums through 2020.
In exile in Thailand, he expanded his work into film. His short film The Beginning explores the values needed to build a democratic nation. His musical feature The Way, Myanmar’s first musical film, portrays the trauma of a family living through conflict and was shot entirely on an iPhone 13 Pro. Both films won awards at international festivals, including the Cannes World Film Festival.
Profiled by The New York Times in 2023, Lynn Lynn continues to use music and film as instruments of witness, resistance and human connection. He arrived in the United States as a refugee in 2025 and is building the next chapter of his career in Houston, with a focus on music production, mixing and mastering.
The youngest of four sons, Lynn Lynn was born in Mandalay to a railway-worker father. After high school he moved to Yangon, working as a bus conductor and security guard while pursuing music. Around 2000 he delivered a demo tape to a recording studio and was hired to compose for prominent Myanmar singers. He learned to navigate state censorship: lyrics were routinely returned for changes, and he sometimes found ways to restore his intended words.
A longtime pro-democracy voice, he marched with monks in the 2007 Saffron Revolution and later volunteered as a bodyguard for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi during the 2012 by-election and 2015 general election. His album The Fourth Revolution spoke openly about military rule.
After the February 2021 coup, the junta charged him and his wife, actress and singer Chit Thu Wai, with incitement. He crossed through jungle and swam to Mae Sot, Thailand, in August 2021; his family followed. There he turned to filmmaking, borrowing an iPhone 13 Pro as his camera and teaching himself new sound-mixing techniques for The Way, which also earned recognition for its soundtrack.

CH 1 · Songwriting
Lynn Lynn built his name writing originals at a time when most Myanmar releases were adaptations. He has written 300+ songs for Burmese singers. Think About It began as love songs written for other singers before it became his own breakthrough record.
He writes melody and lyric together, in Burmese and English, from ballads to full-band rock.
